Corner odds explained

Updated 27 October 2026 2 min read

Corner markets ignore the score and ask how many corners the match will produce. Bookmakers price a total line (and sometimes first-half or handicap lines). Once the game is over, those prices become a record of what the market expected for territorial pressure—not for goals.

What counts as a corner

A corner is awarded when the ball crosses the goal line after last touching a defending player, without a goal being scored. Throw-ins and goal kicks are not corners. Only corners in the 90 minutes plus stoppage time count for standard pre-match totals; extra time is excluded unless a market says otherwise.

Official match statistics can disagree slightly between providers. BetArchives settles corner markets on the corner counts stored with each match in the archive.

Over/under corner lines

  • Over 9.5 wins if there are 10 or more corners in the match.
  • Under 10.5 wins if there are 10 or fewer.
  • Whole lines (10.0): if the total equals the line exactly, stakes are usually refunded.

First-half corner lines use only corners before the break. Asian-style corner handicaps give one team a head start on the corner count, similar in spirit to Asian handicap on goals.

Why corner odds move

Corner totals react to expected game state: two attacking sides, a favourite that must chase, or windy conditions can push the over shorter. A cagey derby can push the under shorter. Movement between opening and closing prices is the same idea as in dropping odds—news and money change the line or the price.

Corner odds on BetArchives

Where Bet365 priced corners, the match page keeps opening and closing over/under (and related) prices with the settled side marked. Not every match has every corner line; coverage follows what the bookmaker offered pre-match.

If you are new to converting prices, start with how to read decimal odds or the odds calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Do corners in extra time count?+

Not on standard 90-minute corner totals. Only stoppage time within the two halves is included.

Is a corner the same as a shot?+

No. Corners measure how often the ball went behind from a defender; they are only loosely related to shots or goals.

Why is there no corner line on some matches?+

The archive only stores markets the bookmaker priced. If no corner market was offered, that card is empty.
